ACTS 8

We see in this chapter that evil people are emboldened to do even more evil, but that God uses it for good. We also get a glimpse of the life of Philip.

  1. After Stephen's death, what took place with the new church of Christians in Jerusalem? (8:1) Who was one of the leaders of this? (8:3) In spite of this evil thing, how did God use it for good? (8:4) How has God brought good out of evil in your life? Did you have to do anything for this to happen? What?
  2. Besides rejoicing when a fellow Christian has died (since they are now with Jesus in heaven), what does verse 2 tell us that Godly people will also do? (8:l2)
  3. During the persecution of Christians, Philip went to Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. Why did the people there pay close attention to him? (8:5-7) What was the result of Philip's work for the lord in Samaria? (8:8)
  4. Why did the Christians in Samaria who believed in Jesus not receive the Holy Spirit until Peter and John came? (8:12-17) Have you received the Holy Spirit?
  5. What can we learn from the example of Simon in verses 9-25 for our own life concerning being a Christian and: 1) Having a past in the occult? 2) What our money can not buy? 3) Receiving and living by the Holy Spirit? 4) The condition of our heart and the effectiveness of our ministry? 5) Repentance?
  6. What do we learn for our life from the encounter of Philip with the Ethiopian: 1) From Philip? 2) From the Ethiopian?
  7. How is it significant for our life that Philip went to the Samaritans and the Ethiopian with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and they believed it?
