The 10 Commandments

In Deuteronomy Other Scriptures Application
#1 - v.7 - You shall have no other gods before me. Exo. 20:3 and Mat. 4:10 Is there anything before God in your life, more important, that you love more?
#2 - v.8-10 - You shall not make for yourself an idol, and worship them. Exo. 20:4-6 and II Cor. 6:14-17 If anything is more important to you than God, it is an idol, and you should stop your idolatry. Also, realize that your children can receive punishment for your sins.
#3 - v.11 - You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Exo. 20:7 and Mat. 12:33-37 God's name is to be re-vered, and you will have to account for every careless word to Him.
#4 - v.12-15 - Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. On it you shall not do any work. Exo. 20:8-11 and Isa. 58:13-14, Luke 13:10-16, & Heb. 4:1-11 This is when to get the rest and time with God you need.
#5 - v.16 - Honor your father and your mother. Exo. 20:12 and Col. 3:20 Do you? If there are problems, speak the truth in love to them, Ephesians 4:15.
#6 - v.17 - You shall not murder. Exo. 20:13 and Mat. 5:21-22, & Eph. 4:26-27, 30-32 Angry at anyone? Watch out! Forgive as God has forgiven you.
#7 - v.18 - You shall not commit adultery. Exo. 20:4 and Mat. 5:27-28 Do things God's way and receive the very best.
#8 - v.19 - You shall not steal. Exo. 20:15 and Mal. 3:8-9, & Eph. 4:28 Are you stealing from God!? See Malachi 3:8-9.
#9 - v.20 - You shall not give false testimony. Exo. 20:16 and Exo. 23:1-3 Truthfulness is the basis of trust. Trust is the basis of close relationships. Are you trustworthy?
#10 - v.21 - You shall not covet. Exo. 20:17 and Luke 12:15-21, & I Tim. 6:6-11 Do yourself a favor and be thankful and contented with what you have. Break this commandment and you will break some of the others.
