Reverend Gary Wetzel
I have been the pastor of the Garwood Presbyterian Church since 1984. I became a Christian in 1970 while I was a "hippie from Mississippi" in my senior year of college. My first career was in electronics, but I left that after my Christian faith helped me with so many of my problems, and I became a pastor. Knowing God personally through a relationship with Jesus has freed me from many of the fears I grew up with, from depression as a teenager and young adult, and also from harmful addictions I had. Through the healing God has brought into my life, my former pain has been turned into compassion for others who are going through suffering. Also, now, I have great joy in the Lord in my life.
Therefore, as a pastor, one of my spiritual gifts that I use for the Lord is "mercy." God works through me to help people in emotional trouble. Another gift that I love to use is "teaching." I love to pass on God's life-giving and changing truth to others, as well as receiving some of God's truth from them. Also, I love to worship God, joyfully expressing my thanks to Him.
