How to Overcome the Loss of a Loved One
You Will Restore My Life - Psalm 71:20
How the Bible Helps Us When a Loved One Leaves Us Through Death
- Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn..." Matthew 5:4
- How?
- Application - Am I going through the process of mourning or am I living in denial? Am I giving my pain to God?
- Application - Things I can thank God for in the midst of my loss:
- Are there any benefits from the loss we feel?
- We can appreciate more what Jesus went through on the cross for us. Do you?
- It can help us develop compassion. Has this happened for you?
- It can humble us. Has it?
- Living by faith, not by sight - II Corinthians 5:7
- Sight - We no longer experience their life and love in our life - life and love seem de-feated by death. Have you experienced this? This does not have to remain our experi-ence, thouogh.
- Faith - By faith we know that the God of life and love has defeated death - and that they are still alive in another existence with Him - and that we will experience their life and love again. Has this truth of God been your experience? It can be.
- II Corinthians 5:8
- I Corinthians 15:50-58
- Revelation 21:1-5
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
For He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support.
He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.
He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him.
You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me.
The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
